Our mission

Poise & Pearl publishes practical, specific and respectful style guidance for women over 40, so that getting dressed feels easy and confident again. These guidelines define the standards every article must meet before it reaches you.

Principles we write by

Specific over vague. "Wear neutrals" helps no one. We name the pieces, the colors, the fabrics and the proportions: a navy crewneck in a cotton blend, ankle-length straight trousers, a 2-inch block heel.

Fit over rules. Style guidance is about proportion, comfort and how a piece makes you feel, not about what women of a certain age "should" wear. We never use "age-appropriate," "frumpy," "too old for" or similar language as a judgment.

Range in every roundup. When a style is available in petite, tall and plus sizes, we look for those options and include them. When it isn't, we say so instead of pretending.

Comfort counts. Shoes you can walk in, waistbands that sit right after lunch, fabrics that breathe. Practical details are part of style, not an afterthought.

How we research

  • Product facts come from retailer and brand listings: fabric composition, measurements (rise, inseam, length), size range, care instructions, and return policy.
  • Fit intelligence comes from patterns in buyer reviews: sizing that runs small or large, sheerness, stretch, how a fabric holds up after washing. We weigh consistent patterns, not single reviews.
  • Body shape and fit guidance draws on widely used styling principles and published sizing guides, presented as starting points rather than rules.
  • Beauty and hair content relies on brand information, published ingredient lists and guidance from dermatology organizations such as the American Academy of Dermatology. We don't make medical claims about products.

We have not tried on or tested every item we feature. Unless a post explicitly says otherwise, recommendations are based on research of public product information, reviews and specs.

From draft to published

  1. Outline and research. We define the outfit formula or question the article answers and gather product and fit information.
  2. Drafting. AI tools may assist with research and first drafts, as set out in our AI policy.
  3. Human editing. An editor reviews the full article, verifies facts, rewrites for clarity and voice, removes anything unsupported, and confirms every featured piece still exists.
  4. Approval. The article is published only after the editor approves it. Their name appears on the "Reviewed by" line.

Fact-check standard

Before publication, the editor verifies:

  • fabric content and size ranges against the current retailer listing
  • that prices are shown as approximate ranges, not fixed figures
  • that every link resolves to the item described
  • that any beauty or ingredient claim is attributed to its source
  • that outfit images match the pieces described in the text

Keeping content current

Fashion inventory turns over every season. We review our most-read outfit and capsule posts ahead of each season, replace sold-out pieces with comparable ones, and refresh advice that has dated. Meaningful revisions update the date shown on the article.

Corrections policy

How errors reach us. Readers can report problems to [email protected], and our editors check older posts during seasonal reviews.

Minor errors such as typos, broken links or a discontinued product swapped for a close equivalent are corrected without notice.

Substantive errors such as a wrong size range, a misstated fabric, or beauty guidance that was inaccurate are corrected promptly and noted at the end of the article: "Correction, [date]: An earlier version of this article misstated the fabric content of the featured cardigan."

Retractions. Content we determine to be misleading or harmful is removed or rewritten, with a note explaining the change.

Timeline. We aim to assess each reported error within five business days.

Independence and integrity

Poise & Pearl is independently owned and has no financial ties to the brands we cover. Advertisers and affiliate partners do not influence our coverage, and no brand previews or approves our articles. We don't accept payment for positive coverage. Sponsored or gifted content, if we ever publish it, will be clearly labeled. Our disclosure page explains how the site earns money.

Respect, privacy and inclusion

We celebrate women of every age, size, shape, skin tone and budget. We don't publish photos of real people without permission, and we don't share reader stories without explicit consent. Our images are faceless flat lays and styling scenes, so no one is held up as the standard to match.

Pins and social media

Every Pinterest pin we publish must reflect the article it links to. We don't promise outfits, prices or results the article doesn't deliver, and we don't repost other creators' photos as our own.

Health and beauty note

Content in Hair & Beauty Over 40 is general information, not medical advice. Hair thinning, sudden hair loss, persistent skin changes and reactions to products are worth discussing with a dermatologist or doctor. Patch test new skincare and hair color, and follow label directions.

We follow FTC disclosure rules, respect copyright and trademark law, and avoid defamatory or unverified claims about people or brands.

Policy review

These guidelines are reviewed annually and whenever our process changes.
