This Privacy Policy applies to poiseandpearl.com ("Poise & Pearl," "we," "our"), a style publication for women over 40. It sets out what personal information Poise & Pearl collects, why, who receives it, and the choices available to you. Using the site means you accept this policy. If you do not accept it, please discontinue use.

1. Scope

This policy covers the Poise & Pearl website, our email newsletter and our digital downloads. It does not cover retailer websites, social platforms or any other service we link to, each of which has its own policy.

2. Information about minors

Poise & Pearl is written for adult women and is not directed to anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A parent or guardian who believes a child has submitted information to us may write to [email protected], and the information will be deleted.

3. Data Poise & Pearl collects

3.1 Data you provide. Your email address and, optionally, your first name when you request the capsule wardrobe planner or subscribe to the newsletter; the contents of any email you send us; and, for paid downloads, the name, email address and billing details entered at checkout. Payment card data is collected and processed by our payment processor. Poise & Pearl does not receive or store full card numbers.

3.2 Data collected automatically. IP address; browser type and version; operating system and device type; internet service provider; referring page or app; pages viewed and time on page; and the date and time of each visit. Approximate location (country, region or city) may be inferred from your IP address.

3.3 Log files. Like most websites, Poise & Pearl relies on a hosting provider that records standard server logs. Those logs contain technical request data and are used for security, troubleshooting and capacity planning.

4. Purposes of use

Poise & Pearl uses personal information to:

operate, maintain and secure the website
measure which content readers find useful and improve it
deliver the downloads and newsletters you request
respond to messages and requests
display advertising that funds the site and measure its performance
receive credit for purchases made through affiliate links
detect and prevent spam, fraud and misuse
comply with legal obligations

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small data files stored in your browser that allow a website to recognize your device on later visits. Poise & Pearl and its partners use cookies together with related technologies, including pixels, tags, scripts, local storage and web beacons, for analytics, advertising, affiliate attribution and basic site functions.

You may refuse or remove cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not block access to articles, though some functions may not behave as expected. Where applicable law requires consent for non-essential cookies, consent will be requested before those cookies are placed, and you may withdraw it later.

6. Google Analytics 4

Poise & Pearl uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google, to understand site traffic and reader behavior in aggregate. Google Analytics places cookies and processes technical data about your visit; according to Google, GA4 does not log or store IP addresses. The information is not used to identify you personally. Google's practices are described in the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent collection by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

7. Interest-based advertising

The site is funded largely by display advertising. Poise & Pearl may work, now or in the future, with third-party ad partners that serve ads on our pages. These partners, and the advertisers they represent, may use cookies, pixels, device identifiers and similar technologies to collect information about your activity on this site and across other websites, in order to deliver ads tailored to your interests, limit how often you see an ad, and measure results.

Poise & Pearl does not select individual advertisements, and their appearance on the site does not constitute endorsement. You may opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative. Visitors in Europe may use Your Online Choices. Opting out does not remove ads; it makes them less personalized.

8. Affiliate programs

Poise & Pearl participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you select an affiliate link, the retailer may place a cookie recording the referral, and Poise & Pearl may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Your purchase data is held by the retailer under its own policy. We receive commission reports that show products sold, not the identity of the buyer. See our disclosure for details.

9. Pinterest integration

Poise & Pearl loads Pinterest's Save button script so readers can save outfits to their boards. When a page containing this script loads, Pinterest may receive technical data such as your IP address, browser information and the URL of the page, and may set cookies, without any click on your part. If you are signed in to Pinterest, that data may be associated with your account. Pinterest's use of the data is governed by the Pinterest Privacy Policy.

10. Embedded content

Articles may include embedded material such as videos or retailer widgets. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the originating website, which may collect data, place cookies and monitor your interaction with it.

Subscribers receive the download they requested, followed by periodic emails with new outfit formulas, seasonal wardrobe notes and occasional offers for Poise & Pearl printables. Our emails may contain tracking that records opens and link clicks. Every message includes an unsubscribe link that takes effect promptly, along with our postal address, in line with the CAN-SPAM Act. Subscriber data is held by our email service and hosting providers, which act solely on our instructions.

12. Disclosure to third parties

Poise & Pearl does not sell, rent or trade subscriber lists. Personal information is disclosed only:

to service providers that host the site, deliver email, provide analytics, process payments or protect against abuse, under terms restricting their use of it
to advertising and affiliate partners as described in sections 7 and 8
where required by law, court order or a valid request from authorities, or to protect the rights and safety of Poise & Pearl, its readers or others
to a successor organization in the event of a merger, acquisition or sale of the site, which would be bound by this policy for the data transferred

13. Retention

Newsletter data is retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Correspondence is kept for as long as needed to resolve the matter and then deleted on a regular schedule. Analytics data is retained for no longer than 14 months. Server logs are kept briefly for security purposes.

14. Security

Poise & Pearl uses HTTPS encryption, restricts account access to authorized people and works with providers that maintain recognized security practices. No transmission or storage method is entirely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

15. Rights of visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

Under the GDPR and equivalent laws, you have the right to:

Access the personal data held about you
Rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data
Erasure of your data
Restriction of processing
Objection to processing, including direct marketing
Portability of your data in a structured, machine-readable format
Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier lawful processing
Complain to your national data protection supervisory authority

The legal bases relied on are consent (newsletter and non-essential cookies), legitimate interests (site operation, security and essential measurement) and performance of a contract (digital product purchases). Requests are answered within one month.

16. Rights of California residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, California residents have the right to:

know the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected, used, disclosed, sold or shared
request deletion of personal information
request correction of inaccurate personal information
opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
exercise these rights without discrimination

Poise & Pearl does not exchange personal information for money. The use of advertising and analytics cookies by partners may, however, be treated as a "sale" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. To opt out, select "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" in the site footer where available, or email [email protected] with that phrase in the subject line. Global Privacy Control signals are honored as opt-out requests for the browser that sends them, to the extent our tools can detect them. Verified requests are answered within 45 days.

17. Residents of other U.S. states

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and Texas, may submit access, correction, deletion and opt-out requests by email in the same way.

Email: use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter.
Analytics: install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Personalized ads: use the DAA, NAI or Your Online Choices tools, or your browser and device ad settings.
Cookies: block or clear them in your browser.

19. Public interactions

Poise & Pearl does not currently host reader comments. Content you post on Pinterest or other social platforms, including content that mentions us, is governed by those platforms' policies and may be visible to the public.

20. Third-party websites

Links to retailers and other websites are provided for convenience. Poise & Pearl is not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites, and this policy does not apply to them.

21. Amendments

Poise & Pearl may amend this policy at any time. The revised version takes effect when posted, and the effective date above will be updated. Continued use of the site after a revision constitutes acceptance. Please review this page periodically.
